1. Quick Start Guide

1.1 First-Time Setup

  1. Open InkTyper - Click the InkTyper icon in your menu bar
  2. Follow the Welcome Wizard - Configure your transcription platform:
    • Local (Recommended): Download SenseVoice model (~200MB) for offline, privacy-first transcription
    • OpenAI: Use your own API key for cloud-based transcription
    • SiliconFlow: Affordable alternative optimized for Chinese
  3. Set Up Keyboard Shortcut - Choose a hotkey for recording (e.g., ⌘⇧Space)
  4. Grant Permissions - Microphone access is required for recording

1.2 Recording Your First Transcription

  1. Click the **Record** button or press your keyboard shortcut
  2. Speak clearly into your microphone
  3. Click **Stop** or release the shortcut when finished
  4. Your transcription will appear in the text field
  5. Copy or use **Auto-Paste** to insert text into any application

2. Common Issues & Solutions

Transcription Not Working

Problem: Transcription fails or returns empty text

Solutions:

  • Local transcription: Ensure the SenseVoice model is downloaded (Settings → Local SenseVoice → Download Model)
  • Cloud transcription: Verify your API key is valid and has sufficient credits
  • Microphone: Check that microphone permissions are granted in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone
  • Network: For cloud transcription, ensure you have an active internet connection

Poor Transcription Accuracy

Problem: Transcription results are inaccurate or garbled

Solutions:

  • Speak clearly and at a moderate pace
  • Minimize background noise
  • For Chinese, ensure you've selected the correct language setting
  • Try recording closer to the microphone
  • For local transcription, consider upgrading to the Nano Pro model for better accuracy

Keyboard Shortcut Not Working

Problem: Hotkey doesn't trigger recording

Solutions:

  • Check that the shortcut is not in use by another application
  • For modifier-only shortcuts (e.g., ⌘⇧), Accessibility permission may be required
  • Open System Settings → Keyboard → Keyboard Shortcuts → App Shortcuts
  • Try a different key combination

Auto-Paste Not Working

Problem: Transcribed text doesn't automatically paste

Solutions:

  • Ensure Auto-Paste is enabled in Settings → Options
  • Some applications may block programmatic paste (e.g., Terminal, password fields)
  • Try manually pasting with ⌘V
  • Check that Accessibility permissions are granted

Model Download Fails

Problem: SenseVoice model won't download

Solutions:

  • Try switching download source between Hugging Face and ModelScope
  • If using Hugging Face, a VPN may be required
  • Ensure you have sufficient disk space (~200MB for Standard, ~1GB for Nano Pro)
  • Check your network connection

3. Features Explained

3.1 AI Text Enhancement

Automatically polish and format your transcriptions:

  • Polish: Improve grammar, punctuation, and readability
  • Summarize: Condense longer transcriptions into key points
  • Requires your own API key (OpenAI, DeepSeek, or Anthropic)

3.2 Templates

Create reusable text templates for different contexts:

  • Chat: Casual messaging style
  • Email: Professional email format
  • Notes: Bullet-point notes
  • Code: Code-friendly formatting
  • Meeting: Meeting minutes format

Create custom templates in Settings → Templates

3.3 Speaker Recognition (Pro)

Filter transcriptions by voice profile:

  • Create voice profiles for different speakers
  • Only transcribe or keep text matching enrolled voices
  • Requires enrollment of voice samples
  • Available in Settings → Advanced → Speaker Recognition

3.4 Streaming Transcription

See transcriptions appear in real-time as you speak:

  • Requires Apple Silicon Mac
  • Enable in Settings → Transcription → Enable Streaming
  • Best for longer recordings

4. License & Pro Features

4.1 Activating Pro License

  1. Open Settings → Usage → License
  2. Click **Buy Pro** or enter your license key
  3. Follow the activation prompts
  4. Pro features unlock immediately

4.2 Pro Features Include:

  • Unlimited local transcription (no daily limits)
  • Pro templates with advanced formatting
  • Speaker recognition for voice filtering
  • Priority support

5. Privacy & Data

Your Data Stays Local

  • Audio: Never sent to any server (for local transcription)
  • Transcriptions: Stored only on your Mac
  • API Keys: Stored securely in Keychain
  • Usage Stats: Tracked locally only

Clearing Your Data

  • Transcription History: Settings → Usage → Clear History
  • API Keys: Delete individual keys in Settings
  • Uninstall: All data is removed when you delete the app

6. System Requirements
